However, I’m not stressing anymore, thanks to my lovely backup camera. And in this post, I’ll help you find the best backup camera for Jeep Wrangler. Best Rear View Camera for Jeep Wrangler Review
1. Brandmotion 9002-8838 Rear Vision Camera System
If you’re looking for a reasonably-priced backup camera solution for your Wrangler, Brandmotion might have exactly what the doc ordered. The camera sits up high and gives you an extended view of what’s going on in the back. The installation is pretty straightforward and won’t take that long (1.5-2 hours, depending on your skill-set). The package includes a detailed installation manual/guide that makes the whole process that much easier.
Designed, assembled, and tested in the States (Detroit, to be precise), this is a US-made product with outstanding customer service. It boasts excellent recording quality 24/7, no matter how dark or bright it is outside. I want to also mention that Brandmotion offers two different configurations: with and without a mirror monitor/display. The only downside – some drivers complain about poor anti-rust protection.
Available both with and without a display, the Brandmotion rear-vision camera is a worthy investment for the average Jeep driver. It includes all the necessary hardware/cables, and a detailed guide. Produced in the States, it relies on CCD technology for good-quality recording during the day and the night.
2. CRUX CCH-01S Spare Tire Mount Rear View Camera
Here, we have one of those ready-steady types of gadgets. What I mean by that is you won’t have any problems with the installation. Everything is straightforward and intuitive: the whole process will take less than an hour. All you’ll have to do is drill the rubber grommet for the harness to “sneak” through the tailgate, and that’s it. On top of that, CRUX made its rear-view camera compatible with a long list of Jeeps – that’s a big pro as well.
During my review, I was impressed by this company’s customer service. The support agents are very quick to respond and give helpful easy-to-understand instructions. There’s one big downside, though, and it has to do with the wiring. It’s pretty cheap and probably won’t last for very long. For experienced pros that know their way around wires, changing it won’t be a problem. But most drivers will find this con to be significant.
CRUX did everything right with this camera, except for the wiring. It’s not at all reliable and is reported by many Jeep owners to be faulty. On the other hand, the straightforward installation, helpful support staff, and advanced compatibility make it a worthy investment. The price-tag isn’t very steep, either.
3. Backup Camera for Jeep Rear-view License Plate
The owners of the legendary JK and JK Unlimited Jeeps will appreciate how easily this backup camera fits their rides. It will take you very little time and the package includes all the necessary wires – no need for any extra parts. Plus, Tuxin-Direct covered the camera with strong waterproof protection. That means you can use it when it’s raining, snowing, or just humid outside.
But that’s not even its most significant pro. The biggest selling point is the super cheap price-tag. You can get this gadget at a very affordable price. The recording quality isn’t that great, though. The resolution is low, and it’s not very good for nighttime filming. So, if you’re on a tight budget and will make do with so-so quality, this could be it for you.
Highly affordable, easy to fit, and well-protected against the rain – that’s everything you need to know about this backup camera. To make it so cheap, the company had to sacrifice the recording quality a bit, but it’s still ok.
4. Brandmotion FVMR-8866 FullVUE Rear Camera with Mirror
Wrangler drivers with big wallets might like what Brandmotion has in stores for them with FVMR. With it, they’ll get a top-notch rearview camera along with an HD display. The camera records in true 1080p, which automatically means crisp and bright images (both during the day and at night). The display is pretty big (9.66 inches) and can replace the mirror in the interior.
By the way, the camera is compatible not only with the stock Jeep wheels but also aftermarket tires (bigger and larger). So, that leaves us with only one (but significant) con: the price. But if it’s quality that you need, and you’ve got the budget for it, then FVMR might be right up your alley.
Folks on a tight budget will find this package to be unreasonably expensive. At the same time, the fans of market-leading gadgets with excellent recording quality will put it on their lists of must-haves.
Backup cameras aren’t a fancy accessory that makes your Wrangler look good. They do, however, carry excellent value, as a decent camera can save you thousands of bucks on repairs. That’s equally true for your own Jeep and any other car that you might hit without rearview vision. With Tuxin-Direct, you’ll get one of the cheapest offers on the market. And while it might not provide the best quality, for a price that low, it is a bargain.
Brandmotion’s FVMR, in contrast, is eight times (!) more expensive but includes a long list of extras. Plus, it boasts premium recording quality, durability, and ease of installation. The other two backup cameras are much cheaper and appeal to a wider range of potential customers. Go ahead and take your pick! Oh, and don’t forget to share your top gadgets in the comments.
